XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) Analyzer

Category: science

A handheld diagnostic tool that uses X-rays to determine the exact elemental composition of a metal sample.

XRF analyzers are the standard for high-accuracy metal grading. By shooting an X-ray pulse at a sample, the tool reads the "fluorescence" of the atoms to identify if a piece of stainless steel is 304 or 316 grade, or if a brass valve contains hidden impurities that would ruin a foundry’s batch.

Common Examples

  • The lead buyer used an XRF analyzer to verify the alloy chemistry of the mystery aluminum casting before offering a purchase quote.
  • Precision sorting using an XRF analyzer ensures we get paid the "prime" commodity price for our high-nickel specialty metal scrap.
