Radiographic Positioning
Category: infrastructure
The specific anatomical alignment of an animal patient required to capture precise X-ray views.
Standard projections require at least two perpendicular views: Right Lateral (the animal rests on its right side) and Ventrodorsal (VD, the animal rests on its back). Achieving clean alignment without motion artifact requires skilled, gentle handling or chemical sedation to protect staff from radiation exposure.
Common Examples
- The technician aligned the orthopedic patient for a orthogonal ventrodorsal radiographic positioning view of the pelvic limb bones.
- Using foam sandbags and alignment troughs helps maintain proper positioning while letting the staff step clear of the x-ray beam path.
