Surgical Pack Sterilization
Category: infrastructure
The process of using high-pressure saturated steam to render surgical instruments completely free of microbial life.
Veterinary instruments are wrapped in porous drapes alongside a chemical indicator tape strip and processed inside an autoclave. The cycle must achieve specific thermodynamic coordinates—typically 121°C (250°F) at 15 PSI for a minimum of thirty minutes—to kill all bacterial endospores.
Common Examples
- The technician rejected the instrument pack because the sterilization indicator tape failed to shift to its dark target compliance color.
- Maintaining an organized surgical pack sterilization log is mandatory to verify autoclave heating performance cycles across the hospital group.
