Transmission Fluid

Category: automotive

A fluid that lubricates and cools the transmission, as well as providing the hydraulic pressure to shift gears.

It is the "lifeblood" of the transmission. If it turns brown or smells burnt, the transmission is literally cooking itself. Changing it (the fluid and the filter) is the only way to make a transmission last 200k+ miles.

Common Examples

  • The burnt smell of the transmission fluid indicated significant internal wear, confirming our need for an immediate flush and filter service.
  • Regular transmission fluid exchanges are the single most important factor in preventing premature, multi-thousand dollar transmission failures.
