Timing Belt

Category: automotive

A reinforced rubber belt that synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and camshaft.

The belt is the "conductor." It ensures the engine valves open and close at the exact millisecond the pistons move. If it breaks while driving, the pistons smash into the valves, destroying the engine instantly. It is a "time bomb" part that must be changed on schedule.

Common Examples

  • We performed the 100,000-mile maintenance including the timing belt replacement to avoid a catastrophic engine failure.
  • Ignoring the timing belt service interval is the single most common cause of complete, non-repairable engine destruction.
