Stencil

Category: art

The design transferred onto the skin before tattooing to serve as a guide for the artist.

The stencil is the "blueprint." Artists draw or print the design onto special thermal paper, then transfer it to the skin using a stencil-transfer gel. The artist must wait for the stencil to dry completely before starting to prevent the lines from smearing.

Common Examples

  • The artist applied the stencil, let it dry for ten minutes, and verified the placement with the client before picking up the machine.
  • If the client moves during the session, the artist may need to re-apply the stencil to maintain the design’s accuracy.
