Saturation
Category: art
The density and evenness of ink coverage within a tattooed area.
Perfect saturation means the area is fully opaque and uniform. Poor saturation leaves "patchy" spots or "holidays" where the skin tone still shows through after the tattoo has healed.
Common Examples
- Achieving consistent saturation in a large black background requires a slow, steady hand and multiple passes with the magnum needle.
- Patchy saturation usually indicates that the artist was working too quickly or not using the correct needle grouping.
