Cover-Up

Category: art

A new tattoo designed specifically to hide or incorporate an older, unwanted tattoo.

Cover-ups require specialized planning. The artist must use bold, dark ink colors and complex patterns to distract the eye from the old tattoo underneath. Not every tattoo can be covered; some may require laser removal sessions first.

Common Examples

  • The client needed a large, black-and-grey floral cover-up to hide a poorly executed name tattoo from their teenage years.
  • Consult with an artist before booking a cover-up to ensure your old tattoo has faded enough to be successfully camouflaged.
