Blowout

Category: art

An error where ink spreads into the lower layers of the skin, causing a blurred, hazy look around the tattoo edges.

A blowout typically happens when the needle goes too deep, injecting ink into the dermis layer where it can migrate freely. It often results in a "bruised" look around the lines and is generally permanent and difficult to fix.

Common Examples

  • The blowout on the forearm tattoo was likely caused by excessive needle depth during the initial lining phase of the session.
  • Blowout is most common in areas with very thin skin, such as the wrist or fingers, where the margin for error is minimal.
