Bi-Directional Smart Meter
Category: infrastructure
A utility meter capable of tracking both the power consumed from the grid and the excess solar electricity exported back to it.
Traditional meters can only measure power moving in one direction. A bi-directional smart meter uses two distinct digital registers to log net consumption and net generation parameters simultaneously, pushing real-time data back to the utility grid operations center.
Common Examples
- The utility provider swapped our standard meter for a bi-directional smart meter right before authorizing system power-up operations.
- Monitoring our bi-directional smart meter logs allows us to verify our true daily self-consumption efficiency metrics.
