ARC (Anti-Reflective Coating)
Category: science
A microscopic chemical coating applied to solar panel glass to maximize light transmission and minimize reflection.
Every photon that bounces off a solar panel's glass is wasted energy. Applying an anti-reflective coating (usually silicon nitride) directly to the glass surface alters the refractive index layer, forcing more light to pass straight through to the silicon cells below.
Common Examples
- The premium module sheet features an advanced double-sided ARC layer, expanding morning and late afternoon energy absorption gains.
- Using harsh chemical cleaning solutions or abrasive brushes can scratch the ARC layer, permanently degrading the panel's efficiency.
