Airport Slot
Category: aviation
A specific time window assigned to an aircraft for takeoff or landing at congested airports.
At major hubs, you can’t just fly in whenever you want. You must reserve a "slot." If you miss your slot, you have to wait for the next available window, which can be hours later. Busy private airports require slot reservations days in advance.
Common Examples
- The flight departure was delayed because we missed our allocated airport slot due to the late arrival of the catering crew.
- Slot reservation management is critical at high-traffic airports where demand for takeoff windows consistently outpaces availability.
