Shore Excursion
Category: maritime
A pre-arranged, paid tour or activity offered at a port of call.
Shore excursions are how cruise lines monetize the time guests spend off the ship. They range from bus tours to snorkeling, and booking them through the cruise line provides a "guarantee" that the ship will wait if the tour is delayed.
Common Examples
- We booked a shore excursion through the ship to ensure we had reliable transportation to the ancient ruins and back.
- Booking a shore excursion privately can be cheaper, but you lose the guarantee that the ship will wait if your transit is delayed.
