Settlement Date

Category: finance

The date by which a trade must be finalized, meaning the buyer pays and the seller delivers the stock.

Settlement is the "delivery window." In the US, this is typically T+1 (Trade date + one business day). You can trade today, but the official ownership change and cash transfer happen on the settlement date.

Common Examples

  • We ensure all trades are funded by the settlement date to avoid potential account restriction flags from our brokerage partner.
  • The settlement date is the final step in the trade lifecycle, confirming that both parties have fulfilled their contractual obligations.
