Serpentine Belt
Category: automotive
A long, snake-like belt that drives multiple peripheral devices (alternator, power steering, A/C).
The serpentine belt is the "power distribution" of the engine. If it snaps, your steering gets heavy (no power steering), your battery light comes on (no alternator), and your engine might overheat (no water pump). It is a critical "wear item" that must be replaced before it cracks.
Common Examples
- Our technician identified significant cracking in the serpentine belt during the oil change, preventing a potential roadside failure.
- Checking the serpentine belt for signs of fraying or "glazing" is a standard part of our proactive vehicle maintenance checklist.
