Random Screening
Category: travel
A secondary, manual inspection of a passenger or bag selected by an automated random generator.
To maintain security unpredictability, a percentage of travelers are flagged for "Random Screening" (often marked as SSSS on the boarding pass). This includes additional chemical swabs, detailed bag searches, and manual pat-downs.
Common Examples
- Being selected for random screening is part of the standard security protocol to maintain an unpredictable safety threshold at the gate.
- The officer conducted a random search of our carry-on bags to ensure compliance with the latest safety directives.
