Ramp

Category: aviation

The area of the airport apron where aircraft are parked, loaded, and serviced.

The ramp is the "staging zone." It is where the FBO ground crew pulls up in tugs to move the jet, where catering is loaded, and where passengers walk to the plane. It is a strictly controlled SIDA (Security Identification Display Area) zone.

Common Examples

  • The ground crew signaled for the tug to push the aircraft back from the ramp area before the engines were started.
  • Access to the ramp is strictly limited to authorized personnel with government-issued security clearance badges.
