An overhead wire infrastructure used to supply electrical power to locomotives and light-rail vehicles equipped with pantographs.
A catenary system consists of a contact wire suspended from a supporting messenger cable, maintaining structural alignment across varying temperatures. The vehicle's roof-mounted pantograph slides along the underside of the contact wire to draw high-voltage current. Maintaining catenary tension is critical; geometry failures or excessive wire wear can cause a pantograph tear, paralyzing entire rail corridors.
