Kitchen Display System (KDS)

Category: infrastructure

A digital network of monitors that programmatically routes, sequences, and tracks customer orders throughout the food preparation line.

A KDS replaces messy, un-tracked paper kitchen tickets. When a transaction hits the point-of-sale or mobile app, the KDS backend calculates preparation times for separate elements (e.g., dropping fries vs. searing proteins) and displays items across specific prep stations concurrently. This provides management with granular timestamp data to locate precise line speed bottlenecks.

Common Examples

  • We integrated our online ordering API directly with our local kitchen display system to prevent ticket injection lag during peak weekend rushes.
  • A sudden glitch in the kitchen display system configuration will completely stall the line, resulting in inaccurate ticket timing records.
