Safe Mode

Category: science

A diagnostic mode in Windows that starts the system with only the most basic drivers.

Safe Mode is the "escape hatch." If a bad driver update causes a blue screen loop, Safe Mode lets you get in, delete the bad driver, and fix the system. It disables all the "extra" bells and whistles that usually hide the source of the crash.

Common Examples

  • We booted the OS into Safe Mode to remove the corrupted display driver that was causing the system-wide instability.
  • Safe Mode is the primary tool for isolating software and driver conflicts that prevent the computer from booting normally.
