Q-Code / Debug LED
Category: infrastructure
Alphanumeric codes displayed on high-end motherboards to indicate the current state or specific error of the system.
Q-Codes are the "talking motherboard." Instead of guessing why it won’t boot, you look at the 2-digit code on the board and check the manual. Code "55" might mean "Memory Not Installed." It is a lifesaver for troubleshooting complex hardware builds.
Common Examples
- The motherboard displayed Q-Code "0d," which the manual identified as a memory initialization error, confirming our RAM was faulty.
- High-end motherboards with Q-Code displays make the troubleshooting process significantly faster by pinpointing the specific component failure.
