PSU Wattage

The total amount of electrical power a power supply unit can provide to a computer system.

Wattage is the "fuel tank." If your components (CPU + GPU + fans) need 600W and your supply is only 500W, the system will crash under heavy load. Always "headroom" your build—if you need 500W, buy 750W for efficiency and future upgrades.

Common Examples

• We calculated our total draw and added 30% headroom to select a PSU wattage that ensures stable performance during GPU spikes.
• Overestimating your PSU wattage requirements is much safer than underestimating, as a failing PSU can damage every part of your rig.
