Overclocking

Category: science

The practice of increasing the clock speed of a component (CPU/GPU) beyond the manufacturer’s rated specifications.

Overclocking is the "performance boost." It gives you "free" speed, but it generates extra heat and can lead to system instability. Modern motherboards have "auto-overclock" features that make it safer, but it still pushes components closer to their physical limits.

Common Examples

  • Extreme overclocking may void your manufacturer warranty, so proceed with caution and verify your cooling system can handle the load.
  • We stress-test our builds for 24 hours after overclocking to ensure the increased voltage doesn’t trigger random system crashes.
