GPU Riser Cable

Category: infrastructure

A flexible extension cable that allows a graphics card to be mounted in a non-standard position in the case.

Risers are used for "aesthetic builds" (vertical GPU mounts). However, low-quality risers can degrade the PCI-e signal, causing massive performance drops, graphical glitches, or total crashes. Always use a shielded riser cable for high-end graphics cards.

Common Examples

  • We swapped the cheap riser cable for a high-quality, shielded version to stop the random GPU crashes during 4K gaming sessions.
  • If you encounter mysterious performance issues with a vertical GPU mount, the first component to test is always the riser cable.
