ABS Sensor (Wheel Speed)

Category: automotive

A sensor that tracks the speed of each wheel to prevent skidding during braking.

The sensor is the "skid-watcher." If you slam on the brakes, the ABS system uses these sensors to pulse the brakes so the tires don’t lock up. If the sensor dies, your ABS and Traction Control lights will both turn on.

Common Examples

  • The ABS light and Traction Control warning were both illuminated due to a faulty rear-left ABS sensor reading zero speed at the wheel.
  • The ABS sensor is frequently damaged by road debris, which is why we always inspect the wire harness before ordering a replacement.
