Pax (Passenger Count)
Category: aviation
Industry shorthand for the number of passengers on a flight, used for weight and balance calculations.
Every "pax" has a weight estimate. This is non-negotiable for flight safety. The pilot uses the total pax count to ensure the plane doesn’t exceed its maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) or shift its center of gravity dangerously.
Common Examples
- The pilot finalized the weight and balance report based on an updated pax count of six adults and two children.
- For private jet logistics, providing an accurate pax count is the first step in ensuring the aircraft is safe for the requested mission.
