Patient Panel Size

Category: healthcare

The total number of unique patients assigned to or managed by a single primary care provider.

In DPC, the panel size is intentionally kept small—typically 400 to 800 patients—compared to traditional practices that may have 2,500+ patients. This limited panel size is what enables the provider to offer same-day appointments and 30-60 minute visit times.

Common Examples

  • By capping our patient panel size at 600, we ensure that every member receives the personalized, unhurried care they deserve.
  • A primary advantage of the DPC model is the dramatic reduction in the patient panel size, which directly correlates with improved health outcomes.
