Onboard Credit (OBC)

Category: maritime

Pre-loaded funds given to a guest as a booking perk, used for ship purchases.

OBC is effectively "ship money." You can spend it on the spa, specialty dining, or shore excursions. It is a common incentive used by travel agents or cruise lines to entice guests into specific cabin bookings.

Common Examples

  • We used our $200 onboard credit to upgrade our dinner at the specialty steakhouse on the ship’s third night.
  • Onboard credit is usually non-refundable; if you don’t spend it by the final night, the balance is lost.
