Oil Filter
Category: automotive
A filter designed to remove contaminants from the engine oil as it circulates.
The filter is the "kidney." As oil flows, it picks up tiny bits of metal and sludge. If the filter is full, it puts all that grit back into your engine bearings, destroying the engine from the inside out. Always change it with the oil.
Common Examples
- We insisted on using a high-capacity oil filter during the synthetic oil change to ensure maximum protection during long highway intervals.
- Failing to replace the oil filter during an oil change effectively renders the new, clean oil useless as it re-collects the old sludge.
