Minimum Annual Guarantee (MAG)
Category: business
The baseline contractually mandated rent an infrastructure operator must pay a public entity.
MAG acts as the public entity’s financial safety net. Even if a pandemic or economic downturn slashes turnpike traffic by 50%, the master operator is legally bound to pay the full MAG specified in the lease, shifting the entire downside operational risk onto the private firm’s corporate balance sheet.
Common Examples
- The concession contract states that the Minimum Annual Guarantee resets every five years based on historical traffic patterns.
- Our financial model calculates our buffer margin by comparing projected baseline revenue directly against the turnpike’s MAG requirement.
