Coping
Category: infrastructure
The protective stone, block, or metal cap units installed on top of a freestanding wall to block water penetration.
Coping stones function as an umbrella for a wall system (such as a rooftop parapet). They are typically sloped or include a beveled edge to rapidly drive rainwater away from the flat wall surface, incorporating an undercut drip slot to prevent moisture from traveling under the stone.
Common Examples
- We specified wide limestone coping stones with a double-beveled edge profile to permanently shield the parapet wall system.
- Without a proper coping block cap, rain will saturate the open vertical cores of a block wall, triggering massive winter spalling damage.
