Brick Veneer
Category: infrastructure
A non-load-bearing masonry facing wythe anchored to a separate structural backup wall.
Most modern commercial brick structures are veneer systems. The brick skin carries zero roof or floor loads; instead, it serves as an incredibly durable exterior weather shield that passes horizontal wind pressures back to the structural framing wall via mechanical ties.
Common Examples
- The project utilized a three-inch thin stone brick veneer anchored directly into a heavy-gauge structural metal stud framing bay.
- Moisture management is the single most critical consideration when detailing an anchored brick veneer cavity wall insulation system.
