3-1-1 Liquid Rule
Category: travel
A standard security regulation limiting carry-on liquids to containers of 3.4oz (100ml) or less.
All liquid, gel, or aerosol containers must fit inside a single, transparent, quart-sized bag. This limits the quantity of potential explosive chemicals that can be brought into the cabin in liquid form.
Common Examples
- My water bottle exceeded the liquids limit and had to be emptied before we could proceed through the security checkpoint.
- The 3-1-1 liquid rule applies to everything from shampoo and toothpaste to hand sanitizer and perfume containers.
