Nesting Arrangement (Bird's Nest Custody)
Category: infrastructure
A transitional co-parenting arrangement where the children remain permanently in the family home while the parents rotate in and out.
Nesting is designed to minimize childhood disruption during a pending divorce. Instead of the children living out of suitcases moving between two new apartments, the parents maintain a separate joint apartment or living spaces. Parent A lives in the family home for their designated week, then swaps out with Parent B, passing house keys and domestic responsibilities back and forth.
Common Examples
- The parents agreed to a temporary nesting arrangement during the pendente lite phase to keep the kids stable during their final school exams.
- A nesting arrangement requires a high degree of parental communication and financial coordination to succeed over a multi-month period.
