Soil pH Level

Category: science

The logarithmic measure of acidity or alkalinity inside a turf soil matrix.

Turfgrass thrives in a slightly acidic soil window between 6.0 and 7.0 pH. If soil falls below 6.0 (highly acidic), vital macro nutrients lock up and become inaccessible to the roots. Operators apply granular lime to raise pH, or elemental sulfur to drop it back into the sweet spot.

Common Examples

  • The yard's low 5.2 soil pH level was actively blocking our fertilizer inputs, necessitating an immediate granular lime application.
  • Maintaining a stable soil pH level ensures that soil microbes can efficiently decompose thatch back into organic nutrients.
