Core Aeration
Category: lifestyle
The mechanical process of pulling cylindrical plugs of soil and thatch out of a lawn to relieve soil compaction.
Core aeration uses hollow tines to extract soil cores (typically 2-3 inches deep). This breaks open compacted soil matrices, allowing oxygen, vital water molecules, and nutrient chemical fertilizers to penetrate straight down to the turf root zone, accelerating root expansion.
Common Examples
- The commercial crew scheduled core aeration in the fall to break up the heavy clay compaction before winter dormancy.
- Core aeration creates optimal open soil channels that significantly boost seed-to-soil contact metrics during fall planting loops.
