Plywood vs. MDF Cabinet Box
Category: infrastructure
Plywood is composed of cross-laminated wood veneers; MDF is an engineered sheet made of compressed fine wood fibers and binders.
Plywood boxes offer excellent structural strength, hold screws tightly, and resist sag under heavy dishes, but can warp in high humidity. Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF) is dead flat and structurally stable, making it the superior choice for high-end painted cabinet door perimeters.
Common Examples
- We specified marine-grade plywood boxes for the sink base unit to maximize structural resistance against accidental plumbing moisture leaks.
- Painted cabinet doors feature an MDF core panel because it lacks natural wood grain lines that shrink and crack the outer paint shell layer.
