Inset Cabinetry

Category: infrastructure

A premium millwork construction style where cabinet doors and drawers are engineered to sit flush inside the face frame opening.

Inset cabinetry requires high woodworking tolerances. Because the doors close completely inside the wood frame boundary rather than resting on top of it, seasonal humidity shifts can cause the wood to expand and stick. Precise micro-hinge adjustments are mandatory to maintain uniform gaps.

Common Examples

  • We selected custom inset cabinetry for the historic home renovation to replicate the authentic, handcrafted furniture look of the period.
  • A minor settlement shift in the floor joists can instantly bind inset cabinet drawer tracks, necessitating precision plane work.
