Joist Hanger

Category: infrastructure

A structural steel bracket designed to anchor timber floor joists to header beams without relying on end-nailing friction.

Manufactured from heavy-gauge galvanized steel, joist hangers enclose the bottom and sides of a framing timber. They are fastened using specialized structural nails or screws specified by the engineer, providing exceptional load bearing and shear calculation metrics.

Common Examples

  • The structural framing blueprint requires heavy-duty galvanized joist hangers to tie the deck rim joists into the main header ledger.
  • Using standard drywall screws instead of rated structural nails inside a joist hanger will completely void the building safety certification.
