Duct Mastic
Category: infrastructure
A thick, flexible adhesive paste used to permanently seal joints and seams in heating and cooling air duct systems.
Duct mastic is applied using a brush or trowel, often over a fiberglass mesh tape base. Unlike standard duct tape, which degrades and dries out within years under thermal cycling, mastic remains flexible for decades, preventing high-cost conditioned air leakage into unconditioned attic spaces.
Common Examples
- Sealing all open sheet metal seams with professional duct mastic cut our system’s energy waste profile by fifteen percent.
- Duct mastic forms an airtight bond layer that prevents loose insulation dust from being drawn into the primary home air stream matrix.
