Triage Tagging (Mass Casualty)
Category: infrastructure
A coding system using colored tags to categorize victims during mass casualty incidents (MCIs).
In MCIs, resources are overwhelmed. Red tags indicate immediate survival needs (airway, hemorrhage); Yellow indicates urgent/stable; Green is for "walking wounded"; Black is for deceased. The goal is to maximize total lives saved, rather than focusing solely on the most critical individual cases.
Common Examples
- The triage tagging protocol allowed the field medics to stabilize the most treatable casualties first during the local emergency event.
- Every nurse received training on triage tagging metrics to ensure we correctly prioritized patients when the ward capacity reached the breaking point.
