HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)

Category: electronics

A digital copy protection protocol designed to prevent the unauthorized duplication of audio and video content streams.

HDCP creates an encrypted handshake connection loop between source devices (like a Roku or Blu-ray player) and the display unit. If any device or cable in the physical pipeline lacks HDCP compliance tracking metrics, the stream hits an absolute block, showing an "HDCP Error" screen.

Common Examples

  • The client encountered a blank screen due to an HDCP handshake error inside the legacy multi-zone video switcher matrix.
  • Replacing the older splitter with an HDCP 2.2 compliant hub restored the 4K video stream from the streaming box instantly.
