Ferrous Scrap
Category: infrastructure
Scrap metals that contain iron and are magnetic.
Ferrous metals, such as steel and cast iron, represent the bulk volume of most salvage operations. Because they are magnetic, yards use high-intensity overhead electromagnetic cranes to move massive quantities quickly, processing them through industrial shredders and shears for steel mill feed.
Common Examples
- We process over 500 tons of ferrous scrap weekly, sorting out engine blocks and structural steel beams for delivery to the regional foundry.
- The magnet test is the first diagnostic step to verify the material is ferrous before placing it on the iron-only pile.
