Fee-For-Service (FFS)
Category: healthcare
A payment model where providers are paid for every individual test, visit, or procedure performed.
FFS is the "traditional" insurance model. It incentivizes volume over value, leading to short visits and high administrative overhead. DPC practices explicitly reject FFS, opting instead for a subscription model that aligns the physician’s incentives with patient wellness.
Common Examples
- DPC practices fundamentally disrupt the fee-for-service billing paradigm by removing the middleman—the insurance carrier.
- The transition away from fee-for-service billing allows our clinicians to focus on patient health rather than maximizing billable codes.
