Comp Room Policy (1:50 Rule)

Category: business

A contractual concession where a venue provides one complimentary hotel room night for every specific volume of nights booked by guests.

The standard corporate benchmark is a 1:50 or 1:40 ratio. If a technology convention secures a room block that executes 500 total room nights across the weekend, the hotel credits 10 room nights back to the master account ledger, which planners allocate to house staff or VIP speakers.

Common Examples

  • Thanks to our strong 1:40 comp room policy, we were able to house our entire internal AV crew without increasing our baseline budget.
  • The finance auditor checked the hotel folio to verify that all eligible comp room credits were accurately applied back to the corporate balance.
