THHN / THWN Conductor
Category: infrastructure
A standardized electrical building wire insulated with flame-retardant thermoplastic and wrapped in a protective nylon jacket.
The acronym stands for Thermoplastic High Heat-resistant Nylon-coated. THHN is rated for dry locations up to 90°C (194°F). The "W" variant denotes water resistance, indicating the wire insulation can be safely pulled through wet underground outdoor conduit lines without structural breakdown.
Common Examples
- We pulled stranded copper THWN-2 conductors through the outdoor trench run to supply the auxiliary equipment outhouses.
- The nylon jacket on a standard THHN wire provides a slick surface layer that significantly reduces friction drag inside tight conduit bends.
