EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing)
Category: infrastructure
A lightweight, thin-walled unthreaded steel raceway commonly utilized for routing commercial branch circuits.
EMT is easily bent into shapes using a manual hand bender tool and joined together via compression or set-screw fittings. Because it features thinner walls than rigid metal conduit (RMC), it provides a higher interior cross-sectional area footprint, maximizing available conductor fill space.
Common Examples
- The commercial installation utilizes 3/4-inch EMT run along the exposed warehouse ceiling joists to clean up the data lines.
- Unlike heavy rigid pipes, thin-walled EMT cannot be threaded and must be securely supported by straps within three feet of every junction box.
