Current Transformer (CT Pod)
Category: infrastructure
A sensor device wrapped around a heavy power line to measure large current loads safely by stepping them down proportionately.
CT pods act as the "eyes" for digital sub-metering grids and automated power quality analyzers. By creating a low-amperage secondary circuit mimicking the high-amperage spikes of the main incoming line, they allow digital monitoring equipment to track building usage without touching high-voltage bars.
Common Examples
- We clamped three digital current transformer pods onto the main incoming service legs to track real-time operational facility power use metrics.
- An open secondary circuit loop on an active current transformer can generate lethal voltage spikes; always shunt the CT block before servicing lines.
