Eddy-Current Separator

Category: infrastructure

An advanced recycling tool that uses magnetic fields to eject non-ferrous metals (like aluminum) from a conveyor stream.

An eddy-current rotor spins at high speed beneath a belt of shredded material. The magnetism induces "eddy currents" in non-ferrous bits, creating a temporary magnetic field in the aluminum itself. This field causes the metal to jump or "repel" off the belt into a collection bin, leaving steel and plastic behind.

Common Examples

  • The eddy-current separator was the most efficient tool in our line, capturing ninety-eight percent of the shredded aluminum streams automatically.
  • We installed an eddy-current separator to reclaim high-value copper pieces that were otherwise lost in the light plastic reject stream.
