Greenboard (Moisture-Resistant Drywall)

A specialized gypsum board faced with a water-resistant green paper backing layer.

Greenboard is designed explicitly for humid interior environments like bathrooms and laundry utility zones. The gypsum core is infused with wax compounds to slow down vapor penetration, though it cannot be used in direct water-submerged zones like shower stalls, which require cement backer board.

Common Examples

• We installed greenboard across the bathroom ceiling structure to insulate the framing from moisture damage caused by steam accumulation.
• Do not use standard greenboard as the structural backing substrate for heavy porcelain tiling jobs inside a walk-in shower bay.
